Can You Use Revolution on Guinea Pigs?
Yes, you can, it is accessible, affordable, and effective, but only use it if your veterinarian suggests it, do not use it on your own accord.
The use of Revolution(Selamectin) differs from country to country where other countries such as in the US, use Revolution and in the UK use Ivermectin instead. Meaning, you need to have a prescription in order to use Revolution in the US.
Usually, only veterinarian clinics offer Revolution (Selamectin) since overuse or abuse of Revolution could cause dangerous side-effects to your Guniea Pig, and it can even cause death.
Do know that the use of Revolution only affects adult ticks, mites, and fleas. You need to give at least 2 treatments to “break the life cycle” of incoming ticks. There are some cases where it is advised to use 3 treatments.
Dosing Range of Revolution for Guinea Pigs
The dosage of Revolution is in direct proportion to the weight of your guinea pig. The dosage is 10mg/kg topically, but it still should be calculated with the weight of your guinea pig.
If administering using a tube, 60mg/cc for a Guniea Pig, the dosage should be 0.167mg/cc multiplied by the weight of the guinea pig in kilos.
For example, let’s say your guinea pig weighs about 1.1lbs, in order to get the weight in kilos, divide by 2.2046, which is, 0.5kg, this is the weight in kilos. Following this example, the dosage of Revolution if administered via 60mg/cc tube is 0.167mg/cc x 0.5kg = 0.0835cc.
It is also recommended to take at least 4 weeks to see an improvement and should not be used on guinea pigs smaller than 12 ounces (340grams).
Revolution for Guinea Pigs by Weight
The dosage of Revolution is administered differently for the weight of the animal itself. Keep in mind, We should not use this product on a guinea pig that weighs less than 340g.

How Often Should You Revolutionize Your Guinea Pig?
Keep in mind, that Revolution is a spot-on treatment, it only works to kill fleas, ticks, and mites. It’s not something that prevents these, so only revolutionize when needed, and as advised by your veterinarian.
Do not apply Revolution when not advised. This is a medicine and not vitamins, this is not something that should be administered daily, only when your guinea pigs have fleas, ticks, or mites.
How Long Does It Take for Revolution to Efficacy On Guinea Pigs?
Revolution takes effect usually in the first 4 to 8 hours, but several days are needed before Revolution reaches its full effectiveness. It is also applied usually on a 4-week period, twice a day to make sure full effectiveness takes place against fleas.
Effects usually last for 10-14 days, as Flea Larvae also hatches in this time, so apply all throughout the 4-week period in order to break the flea “life cycle”.
Risks of Overdosed Revolution
Too many doses of Revolution can cause health issues such as skin irritation, and hair loss, and in some worst cases, even death. Sometimes the mites become more immune to Revolution the longer you use it, so it is important to only use it when needed.
